**trigger warning: miscarriage**
Calista huddled under the counter in their bathroom. The shouts throughout the hotel just echoed in her brain as things happened to go on. She was still trying to process everything as she huddled into the warm embrace of her husband Killian.
"Kil, I don't know what happened. I mean, she became one of those things that we saw on the news..." she started to ramble out. "How did we miss it? It was just a flu..."
He kissed her forehead gingerly as he held her in his arms. "I know, Sugar. We both missed it. Now we know what to look for, I guess. Things are changing. There's so much going on now."
There was that cramp again in her lower belly. "Killian," she said on a whisper. "She didn't deserve that... we need to find her and end end her."
"Shh," he whispered and kissed her forehead again soothingly. "You need to rest and relax. That was far too much excitement. The shots didn't help either. I just need you to relax now."
She snorted lightly. "Easy enough for you to say; it's hard enough to get comfortable on this travertine tile. Thanks for keeping me warm." The coolness of the tile was starting to etch into her now that everything had seemingly settled down, except whatever was going on.
With a tightening embrace, he pulled his wife closer to him. "I understand what you mean. Our backs will hate us for this, but it's the safest place we can be, especially with the tumultuous goings on out there. Until everything settles, we'll stay here, and we'll figure things out with Savannah, okay?"
Looking over at him, she looked deep into his soul. "You sure everything is going to be okay?"
A sharp inhale was the answer she needed. "Most likely not, but you know that we make it through this regardless, because we have each other."
That pain started coming back again. She had had cramping while pregnant and thought this was that. It was much stronger than it had been before. "I hope so. There's a lot going on that we don't understand. I don't think we're going to be able to hide under a hotel bathroom sink forever, Killian."
"I know. I'm trying to figure out a plan. We'll wait until things settle down here. We'll take what we got and get in the car and head home," he stated.
"You make it sound so easy," she said as the pain waned. "It's most likely not going to be that easy."
Killian sighed. "No. No, it most likely will not," he said. "We'll figure things out as we go. Right now, we survive tonight. Tomorrow? We'll see where things take us. Okay? One foot in front of another. We'll eventually get our way home, and we can ride out this storm here if we need to. There's the store across the street that we will have access to during the lockdown."
"I don't think that's going to be the only thing that we'll need to worry about. Who knows how long this is going to go. It got Sav for goodness sake's. Kil, she may not have been the epitome of healthy but damn."
"I know. I know. We just can't plan for all paths right now, we're going to just need to take our time to figure out what we need to do."
Then the pain came back again, this time, it felt like her insides were ripping. She took a sharp intake of air and her forehead creased.
Noticing the look on her face, Killian poured his eyes over the concerned face his wife now shown, as she grasped hold of the pain. "Cal, what's wrong?"
"Killian..." she started and held her breath again. "I... I think I'm losing the baby..." tears started flowing down her face. The pain was much stronger this time.
He just held her tight to him.
